Infinity Health and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust shortlisted for HSJ Partnership Awards 2023

Infinity Health and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust have been shortlisted for Best Acute Sector Partnership with the NHS at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2023, recognising the outstanding dedication to improving healthcare and effective collaboration with the NHS.

The ‘Banishing the Bleeps’ project highlighted the digital transformation in the trust’s out-of-hours adult acute services. The Infinity platform is saving an average of 91 minutes per user per shift and contributing to a significantly smoother operation of the hospital, and reduced overload and bleep fatigue for staff.

About the project

In implementing the NHS Seven Day Services Clinical Standards, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust had some concerns about patient safety, workload, and staff morale out of hours. By working in partnership with the Infinity Health team to implement their digital task management solution, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust saved an average of 91 minutes of time per person per shift, which can be spent on clinical work, and taking proper breaks. Both partners travelled a journey of digital transformation together under pressured circumstances and have made a significant difference.

Other impacts of the project:

  • Improved experience, feeling less time is wasted responding to bleeps, clarifying details, and requesting tasks is more efficient overall

  • 62.5% of staff reported that Infinity has reduced the risk of error, therefore improved patient safety

  • Being able to see colleagues’ workload and tasks enables them to ask for and offer support when needed

  • Previously, 40% of tasks were deemed inappropriate for the team. 85.4% of users reported improved allocation of tasks.

Infinity has made a really significant and beneficial impact on how we manage our Out of Hours Shifts – improving efficiency, safety and colleague wellbeing.
— Dr Rebecca Garrett, Digital Governance Lead and Clinical Safety Officer, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust

About the Award

The judging panel comprised a diverse range of highly regarded figures across the NHS and wider healthcare sector. To be shortlisted as a finalist for these awards, despite tough competition from a pool of brilliant applications, is a mark of real achievement for Infinity Health and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. The project has been selected based on diligence, ambition, and the positive impact that it has had on both practitioners and patients within the health care industry.

The national healthcare sector faced innumerable pressures over the past 12 months – yet the standard and overriding positivity of the partnerships this year highlight the enduring dedication to improving patient outcomes.

It is a great achievement to be shortlisted for our partnership with Somerset to banish the bleeps in out of hours. Outdated bleeps are inefficient, frustrating for staff, and take staff away from patient care. We are so proud of this work to reduce bleep use and make the lives of staff and patients better through the use of digital task management.
