Infinity Health wins HSJ Award for saving 10,000 staff hours at London Trust

We were delighted to attend the 2019 HSJ Awards alongside our NHS partners at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH), where we won the “Driving Efficiency Through Technology” category for our work.

The trust’s porter requests were previously managed through an inefficient, paper-based process. Staff had to handwrite requests at a fixed location, and nearly two out of five requests were later cancelled.

The trust now co-ordinates more than 100,000 transfer requests a year using Infinity Health’s app, which works in a similar way to popular taxi-hailing services. Porters receive instant, up-to-date information about the patient they are collecting, and the time taken to complete each request has been reduced by an average of six minutes. This translates to a saving of more than 10,000 hours, comparable to five full-time equivalents. Inefficient cancellations have also been cut by 80%.

The HSJ Awards have been celebrating healthcare excellence for 39 years and are among the world’s most fiercely contested health service awards, attracting hundreds of entries from the NHS and its partners.

Through a rigorous, fair and transparent judging process the awards produce a roll call of the best organisations, teams and people in the NHS and the wider health sector.

As the new NHS Long-Term Plan creates opportunities for £20bn of investment, judges looked for innovations that improve outcomes, experience and value.

“This award is the result of a collaboration with the teams at Northwick Park Hospital, who saw how Infinity Health’s technology could bring meaningful benefits to staff and patients flowing through the Emergency Department. We are delighted to have this hard work recognised through this prestigious HSJ Award, and the feedback from staff that use it every day is fantastic. This case study demonstrates how technology can make a huge positive impact on efficiency within the hospital setting, making significant time savings and improving patient experience.”

Notes to Editors

  • London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) cares for a population of over one million people in Brent, Ealing, and Harrow, and beyond.

  • Infinity Health provides a digital task management platform and app to make managing health and care tasks more efficient and safer than current paper-based methods. It gives staff real-time visibility of tasks, thereby helping them make better use of their time, minimise the failures in communication that lead to almost two-thirds of patient safety incidents, and improve value for money. infinity.health | @infinity.health
